My Knee Popped!

Knee injuries can be very troublesome!

The dreaded phrase is ACL tear…  3 weeks of ‘pre-habilitation’ followed by surgery AND 6 months of physical therapy!

You definitely don’t want one of those.

Cutting, jumping/landing incorrectly and being struck directly on you knee are a few mechanisms which will tear your ACL.  A sensation of popping in the knee, or hearing a loud pop accompanied with PAIN, inability to walk and immediate swelling are the signs and symptoms.  You may feel the sensation of your knee giving way as you try to walk too.

Getting the correct diagnosis is KEY, and seeing the right Healthcare Provider important.  Make sure you see an Orthopedic Surgeon who KNOWS what he/she is doing.  Your knee deserves to be seen by a specialist.

Surgery for the ACL may take between 1 to 1 & 1/2 hours.  Successful ACL reconstruction is broken down like this…  Surgery is 40%, rehabilitation is 60%…..   The correct rehabilitative program will get you back on  your feet (literally), and get you back to your activities of daily living.  Although lengthy, it’s vitally important!!

Contact me if you need help selecting the right Orthopedic Surgeon, and or the correct physical therapist!
